Wear a Oversized Scarf

From the warm weather to insanely cold weather that has your teeth chattering, you always seem to see super-chic women boasting oversized scarves. You love the idea, but when it comes to actually making the whole huge scarf thing happen, you’re at a loss. While your image of a skinny scarf wrapped once around your neck may distract your mind from other options, you just need a little inspiration for how to wrap a large scarf and what to wear it with. You’ll be one of the ultra-cool set in no time!
Wear your oversized scarf as a wrap in lieu of a cardigan or jacket. Look for summer-weight options in cottons or sheer silky fabrics. Pick a vibrant color, your favorite print or a neutral — anything goes. Tie your scarf around the straps of your handbag or wear it loosely tied around your neck until you find yourself in uncomfortable air-conditioning or when evening falls and it gets a bit chilly. Uncoil the scarf and wrap it around your shoulders like a shawl — so versatile!
Swap out your lightweight scarf for a medium-weight option when autumn approaches. Search for a light cashmere or wool scarf or wholesale pendant scarves that won’t overwhelm your outfits, but that will add an extra cozy factor. Play around with the way you wrap your scarf. For a classic oversized scarf, wrap it once around your neck, allowing the rest to dangle — or drape those sections over your shoulders. Add this piece over a long-sleeve T-shirt or blouse and you can forgo the it’s-not-quite-cold-enough-yet jacket.
Try out an infinity scarf, especially if you’re none-too-excited about fidgeting with your scarf ends all day, trying to keep them in place. An infinity scarf is constructed into one continuous loop of fabric, like a huge fabric necklace. Wear one of these open, looped once or looped several times as a sort of faux cowl neck. Add this chic accessory to a blouse, skinny jeans and heels to amp up an already sexy look.
Pick yourself up an insanely thick, chunky knit scarf for those days when you’re determined that you just don’t need your winter coat … yet … but you know you’ll end up catching a chill when you walk outside for any length of time. Look for a long, neutral scarf in beige, black or gray so you can rock it no matter what outfit you’re wearing. Think cropped blazer, thin tunic sweater, skinny jeans and ankle boots. Wrap the scarf a couple times around your neck for cold-weather protection and let the rest of it dangle over the front of your body for some pretty draping.
Go a little bohemian or mod by playing with patterns. Wear a neutral outfit like a black sweater and jeans or a white T-shirt dress over black leggings. Look for bold graphic prints like cheetah or zigzag patterns or move in the opposite direction by searching for paisleys and florals. Allow yourcharm scarf to drape over your neck without wrapping it, letting the ends hang down the front for a more undone appearance.

Tricks to Dress Long Scarves Across Your Shoulder

The scarf can be an instant used as outfit lift, amping up any outfit from ho-hum to noteworthy. When your dress needs something special, grab a long scarf and get ready to rock. There are lots of cute methods to dress long scarves — wrapped smartly around your neck and tossed across your shoulder.
The Toss. When you’re sporting bare shoulders and need just a touch of coverage, a long cheap scarf tossed casually over one shoulder is an easy and effortless accessory. This scarf tie is the standard of ties — it doesn’t get any easier or more basic. Grab a long scarf and drape it around your neck with the ends coming down your front. Tug one end of the scarf a little so that one-third of the scarf is on one side and two-thirds of the scarf is on the other side. Grab the longer side and throw it over your shoulder so it cascades down your back. Arrange the part of the scarf that wraps around your neck to make sure it looks just right and voila!
The Loop. Shirts with a scoop or boat neck or even a blazer or jacket would be the ideal foundation for a quick and easy loop wrap. Set up the loop just like the toss. Grab the long side and wrap it all the way around your neck once. Reach your hand up through the loop around your neck, grab the end you just wrapped and pull it through. Arrange the loop to make it pretty and shift it so it sits on your shoulder. Super easy and oh-so chic — totally slimming too with the vertical line hanging down your front.
The Key Tie. Any tee or turtleneck that needs a boost of color would look smashing under the key tie. A long, thin silk scarf is ideal for creating this wrap around your neck, and you’ll easily learn the tying technique to wrap the scarf expertly. This tie starts just like the toss and the loop. Wrap the longer end around your neck twice and bring the ends together right in front under the wrap. Tie the ends once loosely and arrange the knot so it looks neat. Now shift the knot so it sits at your shoulder with one tail from the knot going down your back and the other tail sitting smartly at your front.
The Shell Roll. Need a little coverage or warmth around your neck? The shell roll delivers, looking a little like a cowl around your neck. This tie works easily with a tee, crewneck sweater or tank top for casual occasions. Start this scarf wrap just like the others, wrapping the longer end around your neck twice. When you get the wrapping end around the second time, keep going and toss it over your shoulder. You can leave the end loose on your back or you can tuck it in at the back of your neck. Grab the end that’s sitting on your front and arrange it neatly so it hangs down from your shoulder for just a touch of trendy elegance scarves canada.
